DNA extraction, PCR amplification and gel electrophoresis training, DNA Learning Center / Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory.

Jessica's molecular training has a specific and dated origin. In July 2021 she completed a certificate in Basic Recombinant DNA Technology covering DNA extraction, PCR and gel electrophoresis, run by the DNA Learning Centre Nigeria with Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory, New York, and held in Enugu. That was the same month she submitted her B.Sc. project. The techniques she uses daily now are protein-level and cell-level rather than nucleic-acid-level, meaning immunofluorescence staining, immunological assays and cryosectioning. Sterile cell culture technique sits underneath all of them, covering passage, freezing, thawing and counting. She contributed to assay development and research protocol design at G.E.R.N., which is the point at which a technique stops being a procedure somebody hands you. She has since trained and supervised incoming laboratory interns in those methods. Teaching a protocol is the fastest way to find out which parts of it you only thought you understood.
