Antibiotic Resistance (BSc)
Bachelor's thesis in Microbiology (Godfrey Okoye University): antibiotic sensitivity of bacteria isolated from poultry feed in Enugu, Nigeria. Sample only.
For her B.Sc. thesis in Microbiology at Godfrey Okoye University, Enugu, Jessica investigated the antibiotic sensitivity of bacteria isolated from poultry feed, addressing the public-health concern of antimicrobial resistance entering the food chain [1]. The project ran a defined pipeline from representative feed sampling through bacterial isolation and identification to standardised susceptibility testing interpreted against clinical breakpoints. It situated a local, food-safety question within the global effort to monitor and contain antimicrobial resistance, which the World Health Organization ranks among the leading threats to public health [1]. The work combined rigorous microbiological technique with an appreciation of translational and public-health implications, and it laid the groundwork for her later move into precision diagnostics.
Graduating as valedictorian, she completed this thesis with First Class Honours, reflecting both technical competence at the bench and the analytical discipline she now brings to cartilage research.
